It has been great to see our children learning on the job in recent weeks - real life learning in action. We really try to encourage initiative, and are encouraged by the way the seniors are stepping up to make our days even more fun and interesting.
Last week Jessica, Tiraha and Bella organised a fantastic Crazy Hair Day. They had the idea, promoted it, organised a parade and and award ceremony and bought prizes from their own money for the winners. What generous and thoughtful leaders! Thanks so much for getting in the spirit of things. Our parent community is certainly creative as you will see from the photos! It was a lot of fun. It made me laugh that the date they chose ended up being the day that the auditors came, and the first time I met my appraiser - who is none other than Mary Chamberlain, significant author of the NZ Curriculum! There I was in my Crazy Hair glory!
This week Eli and Zac have been working on preparing for Taco Tuesday for next week. They were doing a good lot of planning and then enthusiastically put out flyers late on Friday afternoon without running it past teachers (LOL).
These little "oops" moments are sometimes the best learning opportunities, and the subsequent discussions, rewriting of the flyers and visiting of local shops for donations of ingredients so that they actually can make a profit for Equity School has been really valuable. We were really proud of the way the boys represented our school to local businesses and are thankful for the generous support of The Warehouse, Warkworth Butchery, Countdown and New World.
Thanks for supporting the boys in their efforts to raise money for Equity School - a little start-up school that Lynn Williams is developing with locals in Africa - by sending $2 for each taco your children would like for lunch next Tuesday.
Have a great week!
